Wetland
Delineation, Mitigation, Restoration & Enhancement| "Those areas that are inundated or saturated by surface or ground water at a frequency and duration sufficient to support, and that under normal circumstances do support, a prevalence of vegetation typically adapted for life in saturated soil conditions. Wetlands generally include swamps, marshes, bogs, and similar areas." |
The information presented here will usually enable you to determine whether you might have a wetland...
NWI digital data can be used with Arc/Info's ArcView 3.0 software, however, the DLG3 files must first be converted to Arc/Info coverages. If you only have ArcView, and not Arc/Info, then you can contact the NWI's Think Tank personnel (Kurt Snider by phone at 813.570.5405, or by email kurt@wetlands.nwi.fws.gov) for further assistance.
: The NWI maps ARE NOT to be
considered as jurisdictional delineations, as required under Section 404
of the Clean Water Act for regulatory permitting purposes, since they are
based on the presence of any one of the three parameters that are used
to formally delineate a wetland (vegetation, soils, or hydrology), which
requires evidence of all three to be present. They also have NOT
been field truthed. For regulatory purposes, see the next set of
links below.
