Twas the Night Before Fiesta

by Corey Poulosky (edited slightly by Michael Noah)

Twas the night before Fiesta
When all through the Stadium,
Not a Vol was stirring
Except QB Tee Martin.
He shook and he shivered
As he stood on the grass
With visions of Blackshirts
Coming to stomp on his ass!
While back at the hotel
The Huskers were fast asleep.
Eric Crouch was dreaming
Of scoring on a QB keep.
But with the Tennessee coach
This wasn't the story.
His dreams of the game
Were gruesome and gory.
When up on the field
He heard such a clatter.
He woke and exclaimed
"What the heck's the matter?"
And through sleepy eyes
He saw a familiar sight:
A jolly old man
Dressed in scarlet and white.
But upon more inspection
He found he was wrong.
It wasn't jolly Saint Nick,
But good Ol' Frank Solich.
"What the heck are you doin'?
It's two in the morn."
Fulmer laughed as he joked,
"Ya huskin' some corn?"

The good Husker coach
Looked with a broad grin
And replied to his opponent,
"I'm preparing our win."
And as if on cue,
The stars in the sky
Began to twinkle and sparkle
As they heard the NU coach cry.
"On Bobby, On Alexander,
On Correll, On Deangelo."
And Fulmer stared in awe,
His hands trembled, legs shook.
'Cause standing before him
On the green, white-lined grass
Stood the best coach in the league,
The one with the most class.
The Tennessee coach sighed
Hung his head all depressed.
"No doubt we'll be beaten,
And beaten by the best!"
And as Ol' Frank sauntered off
The good coach turned and said,
"A good night to all...
And to all, 'Go Big Red!'"
