About

Physalia Ocean Sciences, Inc. (POSI) is an international marine science and engineering consulting firm specializing in the objective and empirical assessment and documentation of anthropogenic effects (physical, chemical and biological) on the marine and coastal environment.

Physalia Ocean Sciences' professional services have been effectively utilized by our clientele in the assessment of impacts that are likely to accrue from the construction of coastal development projects (e.g., navigation, shoreline erosion control, storm protection, fish & wildlife enhancement); coastal and marine ecotourism; assessment and design of ecologically effective Marine Protection Areas (MPA); Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM); mining operations in, near or otherwise affecting the coastal zone (e.g., copper, tin); point and non-point source discharge of sediments and contaminants; natural resource baseline studies and natural resource damage assessments (NRDA); marine dredging and disposal operations, particularly those involving the design, conduct, and interpretation of the results of bioassay/bioaccumulation studies performed on suspected contaminated dredged materials; regulatory negotiations; environmental decision support system development and documentation; and the development of oil and hazardous substance (OHS) spill contingency plans using hydrodynamically-driven spill trajectory models and GIS-aided response programs.

While it was tempting to focus our web presence solely on advertising our services, we realized that the vast majority of our web visitors would not likely be engaging our services, but rather simply had an interest or concern with a marine science issue and found us through a variety of search engines available on the Internet.  Likewise, because we are truly global in terms of our service area, we ourselves would often need access to many of our web resources regardless of where in the world we may be engaged - from the populated shores of the southeastern Atlantic seaboard of the U.S. to the remote tropical isles of the mid- and western Pacific and southeast Asia.  This site, therefore, was developed as both a public service and as a resource for our own efforts.

Please feel free to browse our humble website - that's what it's here for.  If you have specific issues or concerns related to the marine environment, please feel free to discuss them with us!  We are devoted to the conservation and sustainable use of the coastal and marine environment, and we truly welcome any thoughtful and/or engaging discussions that will assist us in achieving that end.

And if you wondered where we got our name, here's the scoop!
